A Good Trade: Tradies are some of the most sexually active Kiwis
The Sexual Happiness People at Lovehoney have teamed up with social impact workwear brand, TradeMutt, to uncover the bedroom habits of tradies. The new research which surveyed over 1,400 Kiwi’s and Aussies within the construction industry found a strong correlation between sexual wellness and mental health.
Over 40% of Kiwi tradies (43%) have engaged or spoken to a mental health professional. This is of particular importance to TradeMutt, a social enterprise created by tradies for tradies, with the intent of sparking conversations and raising awareness of mental health on job sites and in offices across Australia and New Zealand. TradeMutt produces thought provoking workwear with sales funding free mental health support for those doing it tough, through TIACS.org (This Is A Conversation Starter).
There is an abundance of research which links sex and masturbation to health benefits and Kiwi tradies are in agreeance. A massive 87% agree that sex and masturbation is good for mental health and over eight in ten (82%) say that regular sex improves their mental wellbeing.
“It’s widely aknowledged that sex and intimacy plays an important role in wellbeing and it’s great to see that tradies are recognising this, persuing healthy sex lives and engaging in conversations around the topic.
I’d encourage Tradies to ensure they are carving out time for themselves to prioritise sex and self love,” said Rob Godwin, Director of Lovehoney Australia and New Zealand.
When it comes to conversations about sex, tradies are all for putting taboos on the tables with six in ten (64%) stating that talking more openly about sex and intimacy would be beneficial for their wellbeing. Currently, 78% of New Zealand tradies are actively engaging in conversations around intimacy with their partner and half (50%) are speaking about it with their friends, while one in ten (10%) still don’t feel comfortable discussing sex with anyone.
“The mission behind TradeMutt is to make mental health support accessible for Australia and New Zealand’s tradies, truckies, blue collars workers and those who care about them.
Our workwear designs are funky and eye-catching to make the invisible issue of mental health impossible to ignore. With this new research in partnership with Lovehoney, we want to extend that reach and message to say there is no shame in talking about sexual wellness, mental health and other topics that are generally branded ‘uncomfortable’,” said TradeMutt Co-Founder, Daniel Allen.
“This study highlighted the importance of sex and masturbation on mental health, and of having those conversations around intimacy with a loved one, friend or co-worker. A conversation can save a life, so we need to raise awareness of these issues and use these statistics to showcase that we’re not alone to create a safe space where people can turn to their partners, friends, or professionals and start a meaningful dialogue,” added Allen.
The survey also reveals some more lighthearted statistics around tradie sex habits, including:
– Just over half (51%) say they’re having sex at least once a week, with 20% saying they have sex 1 – 2 times a week on average.
– Over 7 in 10 (74%) masturbate at least once a week.
– 8 in 10 (80%) have used a sex toy, with the most popular tradies toys being a clitoral stimulator (45%), cock ring (43%),an dildo’s (38%).
