How mobile phones are dialling up our sex lives

According to the ATMS Sex Survey, Kiwis are burning up the data when it comes to using our phones to aid our raging sexual desires.

Sexting and nudes have become an integral part of dating in modern society. A huge number of us have used our data up sending risqué texts and photos of ourselves to our significant other, and sometimes, even strangers.

The pros at sexting and nude-sending have it on lock, they know what to say and they have nudes saved in their phone to tease and delight at any time of the day. Unsurprisingly, the Adulttoymegastore Sex Survey for 2020 found that although Kiwis can’t fly, we can sure type.

The trans-Tasman sex survey has found over one in four New Zealanders and Australians have taken naked selfies. Those taking nudes were more likely to be women, but NZ men like sending naked selfies as much as women do.

The UMR survey commissioned by Adulttoymegastore found 30 percent of New Zealanders and 28 percent of Australians have sent naked photos of themselves to someone.

Aussie men are the least likely to send a nude compared to New Zealand men (25 percent of Australian men vs 30 percent of New Zealand men).

Around 31 percent of Australian women have sent nudes and 29 percent of New Zealand women. Naked selfie sending is most common in younger generations – Gen Z (48 percent) and Gen Y (47 percent).

New Zealanders love to sext more than Aussies

New Zealanders love to sext, and they love it even more than Australians do.

32 percent of New Zealand men have engaged in sexting compared to 29 percent of Australian men. Women love to sext with 37 percent of New Zealand women and 34 percent of Australian women saying they sext (35 percent New Zealanders total, 32 percent Australians total).

Sexters are more likely to be women (34 percent compared to 30 percent for men) and they’re more likely to if they’re younger, with sexting decreasing with age.

The survey found – 49 percent of Gen Z, 49 percent of Gen Y, 35 percent of Gen X, 14 percent of Baby Boomers and 8 percent of the Silent Generation.

Almost half of New Zealanders and Australians have bought from an adult toy store.

A whopping 43 percent of New Zealanders 40 percent of Australians have bought sex toys. They are more likely to be women, but not by much. Aussie men trail behind.

The survey found 41 percent of New Zealand men have bought sex toys, 38 percent of Australian men have, 45 percent of New Zealand women have shopped at an adult store followed by 42 percent of Australian women.

Gen Y are most like to buy (50 percent: 41 percent men, 58 percent women), followed by Gen X (50 percent: 47 percent men, 53 percent women). Adult shopping is still fairly common for baby boomers (32 percent) and silent gen (21 percent).
